Re: Forget ESPN bias, let LPD Nation pick the best college team ever and why.

In the last three decades... its easy to see why there is such an urgency for the University of Miami to get back to where they are. Unless I overlooked someone, they are the only college in NCAA Championship history to win at least 1 national championship in each decade since the 80's.

If Oklahoma doesnt win one during this decade.. their run of success of winning one every decade since the 70's will end.

Not every year the better team was crowned National Champs.

The best team that I have witnessed in my time is the 01 U...The one and only son. The only other team that could have comepeted with this team would been last years FL team. No one else could even compare to the U........ Altho my trojans had back-2-back runs. almost one it three in a row.

Re: Forget ESPN bias, let LPD Nation pick the best college team ever and why.

The conversation when it all gets boiled down is usually between two teams: 2001 Miami and 1995 Nebraska. Both of those teams had ridiculous talent, and completely dominated their schedule in each of those seasons.

I'm almost willing as a Miami fan to give it to 95 Nebraska, simply because I don't like the fact that Larry Coker gets to be associated with that team. He basically held the post while his players carried him past his supreme ineptitude and onto a dominating performance that ended in a national title. I don't like Butch Davis b/c he's a horrible game manager, but he and that staff that recruited what ultimately became the 2001 Hurricanes are the ones that should get the credit for that title, and possibly putting together the best collection of college football talent ever assembled on one team ever.

95 Nebraska has my vote, said it in the other thread.

Tommie Fraizer, Lawrence Phillips, Ahmad Green, Grant Winstrom, Mike Minter, Mike Rucker, list goes on.

62-24 I think was the score from the MNC game against a good UF team.

Its the best team I've ever seen play

In what you said in that post just then may very well be the point that I'd make for the 2001 Miami team. In spite of having a complete numbskull as a coach, the Canes rolled through the season, and to the crown. Tom Osbourne had the ability to lead a team to glory. Larry Joker couldn't lead a pack of wolves to a deer carcass

Re: Forget ESPN bias, let LPD Nation pick the best college team ever and why.

I was 9 when the MNC game was played.
    What difference does that make?
I've went back and watched almost all the games from that year, and downloaded the 95 Fiesta Bowl.

    And the list posted isn't very accurate;
if Ohio State is listed as having 8, then Alabama should be listed as 12.
Ohio State has only won 2 consesus titles, the 8 is misleading.
For example, they were somehow given a share in 1961, which is horsesh!t, Bama went undefeated and finished #1, and was the best team by miles.

So guys, dont use the total count at the bottom, its not very accurate.
